ABOUT

FANTASY is a Brooklyn, NY based production design and scenic painting studio. We create hand-finished sets and props for film, photography, and live performance. Handmade elements add depth and narrative to world building, while often being a greener, more sustainable approach. We use low VOC mediums and eco conscious or recycled materials as much as possible.

Kristen Dempsey learned traditional craft approaches to design while working on opera and theatre productions throughout Europe. Her first feature film, Playland, directed by Georden West, premiered at Tribeca in June 2023. Her second feature, Room Temperature, written by Dennis Cooper, is currently in post production.

BACKDROPS AND FINISHES

We specialize in textured hand painted techniques including aging, lime wash, old masters style portrait backdrops, Venetian plaster, decorative faux finishes, as well as specialty prop fabrication/ sculpture.

 

All types of surfaces ranging from permanent walls to muslin fabric can be painted. We customize each project with our clients which can include color and design consultation, a hand painted rendering, paint samples, site visit, and on-site installation.
