ABOUT
FANTASY is a Brooklyn, NY based production design and scenic painting studio. We create hand-finished sets and props for film, photography, and live performance. Handmade elements add depth and narrative to world building, while often being a greener, more sustainable approach. We use low VOC mediums and eco conscious or recycled materials as much as possible.
Kristen Dempsey began her career in London after graduating with a BFA in theatrical design. Working alongside iconic designers ULTZ and Jenny Tiramani, she collaborated on over 30 opera and theater productions, including her work as associate designer on Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Olivier Award for Best Revival) and The River on Broadway starring Hugh Jackman. Kristen's foundation in stage design informs her approach to her burgeoning career in film. Her features 'Playland' (Tribeca) and Dennis Cooper’s 'Room Temperature' (LA Festival of Movies 2025) use familiar stagecraft techniques and materials to create a bridge between the commonplace and otherworldly. Kristen was selected as a Berliniale Talent in Production Design in 2024 and is a proud member of Local 829.

BACKDROPS AND FINISHES
We specialize in textured hand painted techniques including aging, lime wash, old masters style portrait backdrops, Venetian plaster, decorative faux finishes, as well as specialty prop fabrication/ sculpture.
All types of surfaces ranging from permanent walls to muslin fabric can be painted. We customize each project with our clients which can include color and design consultation, a hand painted rendering, paint samples, site visit, and on-site installation.
